The countryside has an abundance of rural buildings, and many may be considered suitable for conversion to either a business or residential use. The relevant policies that apply to conversions are normally quite restrictive, but they tend to have some flexibility – especially if the building is of architectural merit and the proposed development would ensure its preservation.
We have had great success in negotiating the re-use of old farm buildings for appropriate business and/or residential use with Local Planning Authorities. Central Government policies seek to promote sustainable development and the re-use of buildings, and as such the opportunities presented by old, redundant, or even more modern rural buildings for alternative uses is increasing.
